Why does 6GHz need to be protected?
The 6GHz band is currently threatened by a proposal for frequency sharing between incumbent licensed services and unlicensed services. In August 2017, the FCC opened an inquiry; “Expanding Flexible use in Mid-Band Spectrum Between 3.7 and 24GHz”. In January, a powerful consortium of companies including Apple, Facebook and Google filed an request that unlicensed devices be allowed to operate in the 6GHz band. The FCC is currently considering this proposal. We believe that implementation of this proposal would significantly impact existing mission-critical services in this band. If you oppose this, we’re asking that you sign our ex parte letter petitioning the FCC on this matter.
